Unfortunately, about 50% of WhatsOn users are reporting a problem with their WhatsOn conduit.  All other WhatsOn software works properly, but the data does not sync from the desktop to the handheld.  I cannot reproduce this problem on my system so it is very difficult to fix, but I will try.  However, to fix this problem I will need your help.

To determine if you are one of the users with this problem, install WhatsOn.  Then right-click on the hotsync icon in your system tray.  Select "custom".  Do you see "WhatsOn Database"?  If not, then you have this problem.

Update from Oct. 25, 2003

The updated conduit is now in the base install package.  Simply reinstall WhatsOn and it should all work.  Please let me know if it does.

I believe the problem is solved.  Please follow the instructions below to install the updated conduit.

Update from Oct. 7, 2003 [old]

This problem is turning out to be incredibly difficult to solve because I cannot reproduce it on my local system.  I am determined to fix it, but I need your help.

To install the updated conduit:

  1. Reboot your computer
  2. Right-click on the hotsync icon in the system tray and select exit.
  3. Unzip the updated conduit and copy wocnd.dll to your c:/palm (or equivalent) directory.  This should overwrite your existing wocnd.dll file.
  4. Restart the hotsync manager
  5. Attempt to sync the data to your handheld
  6. This should fix the problem.  If it does please let me know so I can include this conduit in the normal installation

If this does not fix the problem, please run this logging conduit and send me the error log.

To run the logging conduit:

  1. Reboot your computer
  2. Right-click on the hotsync icon in the system tray and select exit.
  3. Unzip the logging conduit, rename to wocnd.dll and copy to your c:/palm (or equivalent) directory.  This should overwrite your existing wocnd.dll file.
  4. Restart the hotsync manager
  5. Attempt to sync the data to your handheld
  6. After the sync, search your harddrive for WODebug.log.
  7. Email this file along with the type of palm you are using, the type of windows you have, and the version of hotsync you are using to me at:

zucker@stanfordalumni.org

Please let me know if this fix works.
